Laurent Maurel was appointed President and CEO of Total E&P Canada on January 1 , 2015. In his role, Mr. Maurel oversees the responsible development of Total’s oil sands portfolio, bringing economically sound, strong and sustainable project delivery practices to lead Total E&P Canada through the next phases of its upstream projects, which include four oil sands projects: Surmont, Fort Hills, Joslyn and Northern Lights Partnership. He will also continue to develop collaborative initiatives with industry to improve environmental performance in the oil sands.
Prior to joining Total E&P Canada, Mr. Maurel was Senior Vice President of Strategy, Markets and Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) for Total Gas & Power in Paris, where he was also a member of the Gas & Power Management Committee. He was a member of Total’s Ethics Committee from 2011 to 2014.
Mr. Maurel joined Total in 1987, and has held leadership positions in various fields of economics, finance, LNG and negotiation in France, Indonesia and the Middle East.
From 2002 to 2007, Mr. Maurel was responsible for managing Total’s interests in diverse gas projects in Abu Dhabi and Qatar, under Total’s Middle East division, earning a wealth of experience and knowledge in collaboration, negotiation and strategy. In 2007, Mr. Maurel took the role of Vice President Growth Strategy for Total’s Exploration & Production. In December 2009, Mr. Maurel was appointed to Senior Vice President LNG for Total Gas & Power.
Mr. Maurel graduated from École Polytechnique in Paris, France and from IFP School of Engineering in Rueil-Malmaison, France.
