Pauline Carmona was appointed consul general in San Francisco in September 2014, having most recently worked at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Paris. Carmona headed the democratic governance mission while part of the Global Economic and Development Strategies team in Paris (2010–12) and served as political counselor in Tokyo and deputy consul general in Hong Kong. She also served on the EU cooperation management team that oversaw the expansion of the European Union after joining the French diplomatic corps in 1997. Carmona received degrees from the Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Paris (Institute of Political Studies of Paris) and the Ecole Nationale d’Administration (National School of Administration). She has three children.
