Patrick Bourgeron

Dr. Bourgeron received his Ph.D. in 1978 from the University Denis Diderot in Paris. His career, almost equally spent between research and program management/leadership, has focused on ecology, conservation planning, and environmental management. His positions required the development, implementation, leadership, and management of science programs in a mission-oriented environment. The focus of his current work on environmental sustainability and resilience requires the integration of many different disciplines including the human dimension.

Dr. Bourgeron is currently a senior research scientist at the Institute of Arctic and Alpine Research of the University of Colorado at Boulder.  Over the years, he has held faculty and leadership positions in academia, École Normale Supérieure in Paris (Blaise Pascal Chair), Palais de la Decouverte (Paris), and The Nature Conservancy. He negotiated the development and implementation of research initiatives, with representatives of 40 countries from a wide array of research, regulatory, and land-management agencies.  He has held 34 special project appointments and served on over 40 panels for US federal and foreign government agencies. His activities in 57 funded projects have resulted in 132 invited lectures and seminars, and produced 134 peer-reviewed publications.
